The Blood Applied as a Sign of Covering

The blood of the lamb was not merely shed; it had to be applied. God’s instruction was clear: the blood must be placed on the doorposts of each home using a hyssop branch. This act was an obedient response of faith to God’s prescribed method of salvation. The blood served as a sign, a visible mark of faith that God Himself would recognize and honor. It was the application, not just the sacrifice, that caused the judgment to pass over those inside. This powerful imagery translates directly to the necessity of personally applying Christ’s sacrifice to one’s own life.

The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt. (Exodus 12:13 ESV)

The Israelites had to actively apply the blood to their doorposts. In what ways have you actively applied the sacrifice of Jesus to the "doorpost" of your own heart, and where might you be hesitating to fully trust in His covering?
