Love Is the Mark of True Discipleship

Loving others—especially the unlovable—is the defining trait of Christ’s followers.
Jesus commands His disciples to love one another as He has loved them, making love the distinguishing mark of His people. This love is not always easy, especially when faced with difficult personalities or challenging circumstances, but it is through community that we learn to love as Christ loves. As we grow in connection with others, our capacity to love deepens, and the world recognizes us as Jesus’ disciples. Love within the church is both a testimony to outsiders and a source of strength for believers.
John 13:34-35 (ESV)
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
Reflection: Is there someone in your church or life who is difficult for you to love? How can you take a practical step this week to show them Christ’s love?
